As the weather gets cold, it’s time to get your vehicle ready for winter driving. At Fremont Auto Center we recommend having a battery check, heating and defrosting system check, tire inspection and rotation, as well as brake system inspection, lights check, and windshield wipers check. With the coming rains, tires become a safety item. Worn out tires increase probability of hydroplaning and loss of control over the vehicle. Bald tires also increase braking distance and probability of a spinout. At Fremont Auto Center we can inspect your tires and will let you know if we see any cause for concern. If we do, we can provide replacement tire(s) if needed. Battery check is also highly recommended – cold weather makes car batteries less effective, so a battery that worked fine in the summer might not be able to hold the charge in cold weather, potentially leaving you stranded. We can verify that the battery can hold sufficient charge to provide the electrical energy to start y ... read more

The days are getting hotter, and it’s time to check the a/c system in your vehicle. We recommend checking not only that it blows cold air, but also that it can blow plenty of cold air at a high setting. If it does not, or there is no air coming from the vents, it’s time to bring your vehicle to Fremont Auto Center for an auto ac inspection, and perhaps for an auto ac recharge. Why would your vehicle’s ac system require a recharge? Well, even though it’s a closed system, it may develop minor or major leaks, including hoses getting brittle and cracking (this would require ac hose replacement). So before we do an ac recharge, State of California requires that we test your vehicle for refrigerant leaks. If a leak is found, it will have to be repaired before the system can be recharged. Fortunately, our nationally ASE certified technicians are highly skilled at auto a/c system diagnostics and repairs. Most repairs can be completed the same day. All a/c work p ... read more

Brake warning light could be activated by a number of conditions. Some are warnings, some will require professional help. Some vehicles do not have separate light for the parking brake, so the brake light could be illuminated to let you know that the parking brake is still on. Naturally, if you released the parking brake, but it looks like the parking brake ( aka emergency brake) is stuck or broken, it’s time to look for a “mechanic near me” and call the professionals. Another reason for the brake light being turned “on” is low level of brake fluid. Topping off the fluid should turn off the light right away. However, this begs the question – what caused the low brake fluid level? Which leads us to yet another reason for the brake light being “on” – brake fluid leak. These can occur in brake lines, brake calipers, drum brake wheel cylinders, and naturally, the master cylinder as well. At Fremont Auto Center we can diagnose and repai ... read more

Your Mini Cooper is manufactured by BMW, but even the best designed vehicles can develop “issues”. Mini Cooper is known for developing oil leaks – fortunately at Fremont Auto Center we can find the source of any oil leak and get it fixed, so you can enjoy your Mini for years to come. How do I know that my Mini is leaking engine oil? We all know about oil spots on the driveway or the garage floor. But a pungent smell coming from the engine area (when the engine is hot) may also indicate that there is an oil leak. One good habit, though it requires a bit more effort, is to regularly check engine oil levels – if you notice the oil level dropping significantly between regular oil changes, or you have to repeatedly add engine oil between service visits, it’s likely a sign of an engine oil leak. Noticing any of these symptoms should motivate you to have your Mini Cooper checked out by a professional. Common Areas of Mini Cooper Oil Leaks Among the areas of M ... read more
